Fiesta de Santa Nino
St. Matthias Church and Hall, August 18
Come celebrate young Jesus by adorning statues of him and processing through the streets! This all day event kicks off with a 9:30am devotional prayer in the church, followed by an 11:30am procession to the school hall, where the festivities will conclude with refreshments, raffle and entertainment.
School Supplies
St. Vincent de Paul is collecting new school supplies for our neighbor children in need. We especially lack: Scissors, Markers, Colored Pencils, Spiral Notebooks, 24 pack Crayons, Ring Binders, Pencil Cases, and Notebook Paper. Please place donated supplies in the collection box at entry area of the church. We will be collecting supplies now through August 26, 2012.
Religious Education Volunteers Needed
Are you looking for a way to get involved and volunteer? We have a need for adults and high school students to assist in our CCD and Children's Liturgy of the Word programs. CCD is a once a week, Sunday morning commitment from 9-10:15am. Children's Liturgy of the Word is a once a month commitment during the 10:30am mass. Training is provided for both programs and only a willingness and eagerness to serve is required! Please contact Karyn McGovern, kemcgovern@juno.com, 773/896-8209 for more information or to volunteer.
RCYA
The Ravenswood Catholic Young Adults is looking for additional leadership committee members to help plan social, spiritual, and service activities. It is a commitment of about 4 to 6 meetings per year. We will be meeting on Sunday, August 19 at St. Benedict's after the 6:30pm mass. Please e-mail RavenswoodCYA@gmail.com if you have any questions or would like more information.
Friends of the Grape
“Wine Oh!” Why Not! Over the last 13 years of “Friends of the Grape” it became apparent that our guests like wine, like a good time and would like to go home with at least one bottle. So “Wine Oh!” was created. A simple premise, we offer 125 bottles of wine that we cover in brown paper bags . For a donation of $20.00 you pick a number from a barrel and you get that corresponding brown bag wine. Now, the wines range in prices from $15.00 to $40.00, with at least four bottles of wine that our valued at over $100.00. This booth has been a great addition to the cause. This year we are asking the parishioners at St. Matthias to help us with obtaining the 125 bottles wines needed for the booth. We have 30 bottles of wine already donated and are hoping that you would be willing to donate a bottle or two. There will be labeled bins at the back of the church for donations, or you can drop off any donation to the rectory or school once it opens. So Why Not get involved in the “Wine Oh?
Email addresses
Looking for your email addresses. The reason for the need is twofold; first, we would like to communicate with parishioners a few times a year through an email letter. Important information is put in the bulletin, but if you were away from town on that weekend you may miss it. Secondly, we are always trying to scale back on printing, whether it is an invitation or an appeal letter. It cost us nothing to send you an email invitation to say, “Friends of the Grape” versus printing the invitation and sending it through the mail, which can cost well over $3000.00. Your email address can be sent to, tuohyterry@gmail.com. To those who have already sent in your email addresses, thank you.
