We invite our parish community to join together for our Lenten Parish Mission with Fr. Tom. Each evening begins at 7pm and will conclude with refreshments and conversation. The mission is expected to go about 75 minutes each evening.
The theme for each night is as follows:
Sunday Night—The Bible
Monday Night—The Cross
Tuesday Night—The Easter Candle
Fr. Tom will be with us for all the masses on Saturday, March 18th and Sunday, March 19th. He will also preside at the 7:15am Morning Masses on Monday and Tuesday, with coffee and conversation to follow.
Please mark your calendars and plan to attend!
Society of St. Vincent de Paul
The St. Matthias Society of St. Vincent de Paul helps the poor and needy in our community. We meet the fourth Monday of every month at 7pm in the St. Matthias Rectory to plan our activities. All are welcome to attend meetings and join us in our work! Next meeting: March 27th. If you are in need of food or assistance, please contact the Society via the St. Matthias Rectory: 773-506-2191.
In today's Gospel reading about the Transfiguration, a voice from on high tells Peter, James, and John to listen to Jesus. When Jesus bids us to love one another, do we listen to him?
Looking for Holy Week Singers
I’d like to invite parishioners to sing with the Choir during Holy Week Services. Please consider singing at one or all of the following services: Palm Sunday (10:30 am); Holy Thursday (7:00 pm); Easter Vigil (7:30 pm) and Easter Sunday (8:00 am or 10:30 am). It will be necessary to attend rehearsals during Lent to prepare for the services of your choice. Not all of the below rehearsals are required but as many as possible would be helpful.
March 14 7-9 pm
March 22 7-9 pm
March 28 7-9 pm
April 4 7-9 pm
April 11 7-9:30 pm (Dress Rehearsal)
Please contact me at email@example.com or speak to me after weekend masses if you are interested in singing. I look forward to many of you adding your talents to help enhance our worship services during this most holy time of the year.
St. Matthias Book Club
St. Matthias is starting a book club; reading books which are geared toward our growing faith. Deacon Dennis is leading the book club and has chosen The Gift of Peace, Personal Reflections by Joseph Cardinal Bernadine to be read during this season of Lent.
The Gift of Peace reveals the Cardinal’s spiritual growth amid a string of traumatic events. In these pages, Bernadine tells his story openly and honestly, and shares the profound peace he came to at the end of his life. He accepted his peace as a gift from God, and he in turn now shares that gift with the world.
The book can be bought on AMAZON in paperback ($12.04) or Hardcover ($17.95). We will gather to discuss the chapters in the book and how the book is helping us grow in our faith. We will meet in the rectory on Wednesdays at 7pm.

Prayer for Our Parish Mission
Good and Gracious God, we thank you for the gift of Your Love in our lives. We ask you to bless our parish as we prepare for our Parish Mission. We give you thanks for the many blessing you have bestowed on our community. We pray that our Parish Mission will be a time of renewal for all of us. Open our hearts to hear Your Word and lead us to finding Your Presence in all that we do.
May our Parish Mission strengthen our community in living and professing our faith so that we may be a beacon of hope to those who come to us. Help us to cherish Your Love and give witness to Your Saving Grace among us.
May St. Matthias be protected from all harm and grow in the service of Your Name.
